THE
IMPERIAL MBA: AIMS AND PHILOSOPHY
Our
objective is to produce managers who can analyze complex business
problems in a dynamic environment and be instruments of innovation
and change. This is accomplished by providing the students a firm
grounding in theory and functional areas of management which is
then supplemented with in-depth study of specialized topics. Throughout
the program emphasis is to create a complete awareness and clear
understanding of a wide range of management skills and operating
techniques. This is done in an environment of intensive and extended
pressure of time so that our graduates not only have the ability
to assess and analyze complex issues but can also rationalize and
direct a variety of conflicting interests towards the pursuit of
organizational goals and objectives.
The
Imperial College MBA is firmly based on the following philosophy
about management education:
* management
learning is most effective when theoretical concepts and techniques
are blended with practical approach to business problems and issues
through “action learning.”
* many
of the issues confronting modern organizations require a broad,
multidisciplinary global perspective of the situation and a strategic
vision rather than a more narrow functional focus.
* uncertainty
and risk is inherent in all business situations, managers must learn
to cope with uncertainty and use it to their advantage by responding
quickly and effectively to the emerging challenges and opportunities.
* managers
must have a clear vision, analytical skills and ability to lead
their organizations and become the instruments of innovation and
change in shaping the future, with a firm commitment to quality and
professionalism.
* development
of creative and critical thinking by engaging students in continuing
dialog on current business topics is pivotal for individual and
organizational development.
