Alumni Success Stories (Spring 2009)

Alumni Success Stories Seminar was held at Imperial College of Business Studies on Thursday, January 29, 2009. Alumni with outstanding achievements in their professions at reputed organizations were invited to share their experiences and achievements with current students. The invitees also provided valuable career guidelines to the students. The basic aim of the seminar is to inspire, motivate and educate current students for their future careers.

The seminar started at 11:30 am. Mr. Muhammad Ali Aziz was the first speaker. Mr. Aziz did his MBA in year 1996 from Imperial College. He is currently employed at Nestle Pakistan as Business Manager (Beverages. Confectionary & Breakfast Cereals) and reports directly to the Managing Director. He shared his professional experience by telling the students about the initial difficulties faced when he joined the sales department of Nestle as MTO. He also told them how he attained the position of Area Manager and then of the Brand Manager. He emphasized the importance of leadership qualities, adaptability and flexibility in one’s personality. He advised the students to first explore their passions and then excel in them.

The second speaker was Ms. Aalia Mazhar. She is working in Standard Chartered Bank since her graduation in year 1999 and she is the Senior Client Services Manager. She stressed the clarity of aim in one’s mind so that he/ she know his path to success. She also emphasized the importance of innovation in the field of banking.

The third speaker was Mr. Syed M. Umair who is the CEO of Sampak group. He told students about the hardships he had to face despite of being the owner of several mills and companies. He told them that he started his career from the lowest position in his own company and then reached the top after two years. He also told students how he faced the incident of being declared an un-willful bankrupt. He said that one has to be very flexible and responsive to the situation in the field no matter how learned he/she is.

The speeches were followed by a thank you note from Mrs. Badia Raza. Shields were given to the alumni by Dr. Nisar Ahmed. A group photograph of all participants was taken. The seminar ended with refreshments in the faculty lounge.
