Convocation
2004
Imperial
College held its 3rd Convocation on 29th April 2004, at Alhamra
Hall No. 2. The Governor of the Punjab, Lt. General (Retd.) Khalid
Maqbool was the Chief Guest. The event was widely attended by government
officials, executives from the corporate sector, heads of educational
institutions, prominent citizens, faculty and parents of graduates.
The graduates were awarded degrees in MBA, MBIT, MCS, Executive
MBA, BBA, BBA(Honors) and BCS.
As
the convocation procession walked down the hall, regal & distinguished,
the audience seemed visibly impressed by the professional ambience
and sophistication of the occasion. The convocation commenced, with
the recitation from the Holy Quran.
In
his welcome address, the Rector of Imperial College of Business
Studies, Dr. Azmat Abbas Syed felicitated the graduates on this
important occasion in their lives. He emphasized the motto of ICBS
‘Developing Leadership with Integrity’. He discussed
the needs and challenges confronting the field of education and
the stressed that student enrollment at university level must be
increased. He said that there is a mismatch between education and
industry which is one of the major reasons for educated unemployed
and that the education sector needed to prepare skilled human capital
to face WTO regime and other international agreements. He also briefly
mentioned the future plans of the college which include offering
online courses, PhD programs, developing foreign linkages, developing
a new campus and providing special programs in executive education
and training
Then
the degrees were awarded to the graduates. High achievers in academic
and co curricular activities received gold medals. Outstanding Alumni
received rewards for their performance after graduation in practical
life.
The
Chief Guest Lt. General (Retd.) Khalid Maqbool in his address discussed
the importance of quality especially in higher education. He stressed
on the need of providing more focused and purpose based education
so that the educated youngsters be easily absorbed in the job market.
He lauded the role of the private sector in education and insisted
that they step forward and help more positively in the development
of higher education. He advised the universities in the private
sector to follow global trends in education and encourage research.
This
regal ceremony ended with a photo session with the Governor of the
Punjab. The convocation was followed by a lunch at Burney Gardens.
The

(PTV & ARY). The Newspapers that covered ICBS Convocation included
The Nation, The News, The Daily Times, Nawai-Waqt, Khabrain, Pakistan
and Express.
